Edith Heard<\/a> at the Curie Institute. He then moved to San Francisco for a post-doctoral training with <a id=\"cd_d84td0hoa3i\" href=\"http:\/\/bruneaulab.gladstone.org\/\">Pr. Benoit Bruneau<\/a> at the Gladstone Institute, where he applied genome engineering to study the functions of proteins involved in chromosome organization and gene regulation in embryonic stem cells.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2019 he leads a research group in the Cardiovascular Research Institute at the University of California in San Francisco. She grad<span style=\"font-size: 1.0625rem;\">uated from Indiana University, where she studied the control of meiosis in fungi in the laboratories of <a id=\"cd_wq7nug4w5pb\" href=\"https:\/\/biology.indiana.edu\/about\/faculty\/zolan-miriam.html\">Mimi Zolan<\/a> and <a id=\"cd_is1kjfqmmp\" href=\"https:\/\/biology.indiana.edu\/about\/faculty\/lacefield-soni.html\">Soni Lacefield<\/a>. She then completed her PhD with Pr. <a id=\"cd_jwa6l3r5d2\" href=\"http:\/\/mcb.berkeley.edu\/labs\/meyer\/\">Barbara Meyer<\/a> at the University of California, Berkeley, where she investigated how chromatin folding influences X chromosome dosage compensation, as well as aging, in\u00a0<\/span><em id=\"cd_orj1bfdroq\" style=\"font-size: 1.0625rem;\">Caenorhabditis elegans<\/em><span id=\"cd_xk7ctyd56fs\" style=\"font-size: 1.0625rem;\">. She obtained her PhD from the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) in Pune, where she investigated the mechanisms governing transcriptional regulation of human XIST in the laboratory of Pr. <a id=\"cd_vuppmgq1nzq\" href=\"https:\/\/www.sglabepigenetics.com\/\">Sanjeev Galande<\/a>. Prior to joining the Nora Lab, she worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the lab of Pr. <a id=\"cd_vf0q3twhlo9\" href=\"https:\/\/www.childrenshospital.org\/research\/labs\/alt-laboratory\">Frederick Alt<\/a> at the Boston Children\u2019s Hospital, focusing on the molecular aspects of antibody class-switch recombination. Her broad research interest is to understand the dynamics and impact of genome architecture in the context of development. She received her Bachelor\u2019s and Master\u2019s degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), where she discovered her passion for understanding the molecular mechanisms that control stem cell fate decisions. She furthered her research interest by completing her PhD at KAUST (Saudi Arabia), under the supervision of Pr. <a id=\"cd_uj22earvga\" href=\"https:\/\/www.kaust.edu.sa\/en\/study\/faculty\/wolfgang-fischle\">Wolfgang Fischle<\/a>, where she focused on investigating the roles of linker histones in regulating transcriptional programs and their effect on stem cell differentiation processes. She graduated from the University of San Francisco with a BS in Biology. Prior to joining the DSCB graduate program at UCSF, she worked as a research associate in the lab of Pr. <a id=\"cd_cfuwvzw4d8\" href=\"https:\/\/bms.ucsf.edu\/people\/licia-selleri-phd-md\">Licia Selleri<\/a> at UCSF studying genomic control of craniofacial development. The first of her projects used mouse transgenesis to validate and describe orthologous human and chimpanzee cranial neural crest enhancers that were predicted to have species-specific activity. Additionally, she worked on elucidating the gene regulatory networks underlying the outgrowth of the upper jaw and related fusion of the secondary palate using mouse, chicken, and pig as diverse models of this process. Prior to joining the Tetrad graduate program at UCSF, he received his Bachelor\u2019s degree from University of Chicago where he worked in the laboratory of Pr. <a class=\"c-link\" href=\"https:\/\/www.ruthenlab.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-stringify-link=\"https:\/\/www.ruthenlab.org\/\" data-sk=\"tooltip_parent\">Alexander Ruthenburg<\/a>, building a dCas9-based system for artificially inducing long-distance contacts between chromatin loci to understand the effect of enhancer-promoter proximity on transcription initiation. She graduated from the University of California Berkeley with a Bachelors in molecular cell biology, neurobiology. While at Berkeley, she developed an interest in neurobiology and neurodegenerative research.
